It’s ChowTime with Chef Jaheim
With the Richmond Children’s Business Fair 2019 right around the corner, I had the opportunity to chat with a few of the 73 “Youthpreneurs” that will be in attendance March 9th.
While in High School, I attended a culinary program. It was a very underfunded program but I enjoyed the lessons I learned while I was enrolled. When funds would allow, we were able to cook and cater functions for others. I didn’t really see myself as a chef, in fact, I was hoping to get into the automotive program at the center but I didn’t get accepted. Then again I didn’t see myself as a Mechanic either. Hmm. I was so lost as a child. That’s another story though.
I found someone who does have a passion for cooking! Meet six year old Chef Jaheim. He’s a first grader straight out of Richmond, Va and the Owner of ChowTime. This adorable little guy knows his way around the kitchen, which is very impressive considering his age. Kind of wish my nine year old cooking skills were as advanced as Chef Jaheim’s. Maybe I can get Jaheim to help train my Jeremiah one day. It sure would be great to have someone else in the house who can prepare dinner.
Chef Jaheim tells me that the first dish he ever cooked was Pepper Steak, which is amazing because my first dish was eggs in a microwave. Not very tasty I have to say. I could probably bet that Jaheim even cooks a better steak than I do! Some of Jaheim’s signature dishes includes mouth watering crab cakes, seasoned salmon, homemade chicken bbq and Cheesy Macaroni and Cheese. Speaking of Mac and Cheese, Chef Jaheim gave me his recipe to share with everyone.
ChowTime Cheesy Macaroni and Cheese
1 lb elbow pasta
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons flour
2 cups milk
2 cups cheddar cheese (grated)
Add salt and pepper to taste
Jaheim tells me his future plans for ChowTime is grow into his very own FoodTruck, so he can continue to be apart of and host Pop-Up events in Richmond such as his participation in an event for Seniors at the SouthSide Community Center hosted by Rapper Jim Jones.
This year ChowTime returns to the Richmond Children’s Business Fair on March 9th starting at 10am. Chef Jaheim will be serving up a scrumptious menu that will include Cheesy Mac & Cheese, Mouth Watering Crab Cakes, Pan seared Salmon, Homemade chicken bbq. My taste buds are set on the Salmon, because I loves me some salmon! Hopefully Jaheim will save me piece.
